Location: The Underbank, Stockport
Property Type: Mixed-Use
Funds For: Purchase & Conversion
Timeframe: Client Deadline

Our client approached us requesting funding to purchase and restore a fire damaged christian bookshop built in 1888 located on Stockports famous Underbank.

The Underbank has become one of the North West’s most exciting regeneration hotspots, known for its historic buildings, independent businesses, and growing creative community.

Rising demand has made the area increasingly attractive for property investment, though many of its historic assets present significant redevelopment challenges due to decades of neglect, structural damage, and complex town-centre constraints.

This Victorian-era property, built in late 19th century 1888 had suffered extensive fire and water damage and was in severe disrepair.

Situated in a dense town-centre location, the project required specialist development finance and a pragmatic, experience-led lending approach.

Lowry Capital provided £1.2m in development funding to support the full regeneration of the site, enabling comprehensive structural works and the reconfiguration of the building to maximise its value potential.

The completed scheme delivered:
• 7 high-quality residential apartments
• 2 ground-floor commercial units
• Restoration of a fire and water-damaged historic building
• Retention of original period features
• A mixed-use asset contributing to Stockport’s town-centre regeneration

Lowry Capital supports developers delivering complex urban schemes, helping to unlock the potential of historic assets and create long-term value in regeneration locations.
